Just in case you don't know already, yes, i'm binge reading all the rest of Chronicle of Ixia series (the last series - Soulfinder- to be exact), and this one is the last book of the whole series (well we still have a novella after this one -which i'm planning to review it too- but for primary work this one is the last) Please do click this picture below just in case you haven't read the previous book.

A Quick Flashback

Yelena suddenly lost her magic ability after an ambush set by unknown yet smart assassin with magic ability to erase his/her tracks so it's hard for even Valek to track down. With no magic ability she becomes vulnerable, going back to Sitia to look for the answer which potion that made her lost her magic ability, while the news about it spreading, avoiding an assassin that called himself Mosquito who tried to kill her by the order of unknown man.

In other hand Valek is in another mission for a smuggling case with a secret route from Ixia to Sitia that turns out a route from mine with illusion to cover its entrance, turns out that route is for smuggling Curare, with Maren, his other team carrying another secret mission from Commander that Valek himself don't know about it.

That Curare turns out supplied by Owen Moon who supposed to be executed by Commander by previous event trying to steal Ice Moon but turns out didn't. His brother, Ben Moon escape from Sitia prison and with other magicians, forming a group that can be a thread to Sitia.  Valek in other hand being busy because of Commander's command to solve the problem in MD-1 by himself, also questioning Commander's intentions after revealed that Commander took Owen as his guest and made Valek no longer his advisor, only as his soldier.

Synopsis

Discovering that the Commander's intention to invade Sitia with the help of Owen Moon who helps Commander produce and smuggle Curare (potion that can cause paralyze) in order to go to win the war to Sitian magicians and with Owen's ability to control mind, Valek suspect that Commander is now under Owen's order.

In other hand, Sitia is being lead by no longer Councilors, but a Cartel made of group of businessmen lead by Bruns Jewelrose. Using Theobroma (a plant that can encounter curare potion but also made people who use it easy to be convinced) to convinces Councilors and others, declaring martial law and set curfew for Sitian citizen and preparing for Ixia's invasion.

Set in between, Valek, Yelena and others, which they called them shelves as the resistant, trying to stop both of them, since Owen and Bruns actually working together for this, with Commander as the one to blame if the war really happens.

Comparing Each Book In Series

If you read my review from previous book, you will find i didn't mention a lot about the synopsis that i talked here, that's because it's actually wasn't the focus of the story at that time.

In first book, Shadow Study, the story more focusing in the foundation of the main problem, with lots of side story, about Valek's past and the story of Onora, the assassin that try to take Valek's position, and Yelena's struggle for no longer having magic in her and trying to gain it back by searching for which potion got her in that condition and looking for the antidote of it.

In second book, all the short stories in the first book begins to form the purpose, we got the answer why Valek went to MD-1 and discovering his family, and the reason why Yelena lost her magic, also the main problem begin to form, the discovery of the use of Theobroma, the discovery of house glass in Sitia that Owen use to produce not only Curare but also other plants like Theobroma and other plans that possibly can be used as the potion that can counter the effect of Curare, discovering that the problem not only from Ixia but also from Sitia.

In the third book, the problem and story line become more focusing in the main problem since all the puzzle already connected to each other. It's obviously less confusing. Revealing why Yelena lost her magic, discovering the origin why Valek is immune to the magic from the first place. And discovering the big plot that Owen Moon has planned since years ago.

Point Of Views

In the first book we got 3 POVs, Yelena, Valek and Janco. I love that Maria V Snyder included Janco's POV in here, since i really like the way Janco's way to describe something, witty and fun to read. But to be honest because the first set each POV in different kind of missions, and each chapter we got different POV, it's kind of confusing, and let down when i reach the end of chapter (i've talked about it in my Shadow Study review about this).

In the second book we got addition of Leif POV, which i think not really necessary? I understand that some plot need his pov but well, i guess it feels a bit distracting.

In the last book we got another addition POV with Heli's POV, it's indeed needed, because she went to another place with Zethan, Zohav and Teegan. Also got a glimpse of Kade after heartbroken get "dumped" by Opal (okay maybe that's a bit spoiler if you haven't read the Glass series, but i take it that it's okay to spoiled since it's past the series anyway). Now with lots of POV it's no longer confusing because it completes each other in their mission which got us as the review a full length of what's going on in each place.

Characters Development

What i really like in this series is how the character develops, like the discovery of Yelena's baby bump can do, the mystery of Valek's immune to magic, Onora's One Trick thingy, and more potentials characters in future like Fisk and his young groups, Teegan the young soon-to-be Master Magician, Reema's magical ability, and also Zethan and Zohav's.

What a bit sad that i find while reading this series is that lack of witty dialogue from Kiki and less of Ari in action. I also waiting more of Janco and Onora's relationship just to make me hoping there's more to this series.

In Conclusion

This third book definitely live up the perks of the third book for me, as the finale not only the last book of the Soulfinder series but also the end of the Chronicle of Ixia for me. It's a Woot Woot! for me (go to my rating system for more explanation about that) if you asked my rating for the third book, the only lack of it is that i need more!! i want more of the next generation of Ixia and Sitia, Janco, Ari and Onora in Ixia, also Fisk, Teegan, Reema, Zethan and Zohav in Sitia. Hopefully that Maria V Snyder will do it in future since i see a lot of potential in specially for Sitia Team (Fisk, Teegan, Reema, Zethan and Zohav, and probably Baby Liana? - Okay, another Spoiler i guess? - ) Finger Crossed for that.
