Is It Worth Reading? Before Legend by Marie Lu
November 15, 2020
"Dad had always told me to move forward, never backward. So i keep my toes away from the pier and inland toward the slumps. Best to be alone out here. I'm a floating soul, a phantom.. i belong nowhere. Charlie's words echo in my mind. I bet the Republic hasn't seen the last of you. I smile. No, I sincerely hope that they haven't"
Welcome to the third post of my Novellas Week, which also the first post of my Marie Lu's month. I know, that's a lot to keep up and kind of confusing, but well.. i guess that's me! Believe me i have planed all ahead for this blog, so please be excited for that and keep an eye open for the next blog post!
So i decided to read all the novellas from the Legend Series by Marie Lu in order to read the fourth book that recently (well, not that recently release but just call it that way since she's already move on another series before she release the 4th book of the series) which called as Rebel. And yes i will do a review about it soon, so again please anticipate that one coming.
Reading Order
This novella is labeled as Legend #0.5 in Goodreads, which means the story set before the first book Legend. I actually read Legend years ago, kind of about 5 years ago, but still become one of my fave series. Actually i can say it's the best dystopian series i've ever read. So finding that Marie Lu wrote bunch of novellas for this series and read it just bring me back to the nostalgia.
What is it All About?
The story sets 3 years before the Legend, consist of 2 chapters, first is Day, the other one is June, just like the concept of this series. The story about Day is talking about his adventure after escape the horror of that Republic's Lab, living in Lake sector with an injured knee. Met a girl name Charlie when Day trying to steal food which happen to be her Father's Shipment. Charlie offers Day a three days of work instead, and a kiss, which become the first kiss for Day.
In Other hand, being super smart, June becomes the youngest student in Drake University. She's only twelve years old, while the other student are sixteen or maybe even older. She got into trouble since day one because one of the student said that she paid to be able to got in Drake University and out of pity because of what happened to her parents, not by her smartness. Funny thing that she actually didn't actually fight this man, just dodging him, not even touch him, which mean no rules being broken, she's just that smart.
Is It Worth Reading?
Like i said this one really bring me back to how much i love this Legend series, the story about Day's struggle, hating Republic, stealing in order to live. June being super smart, and i find it lovely to get a glimpse of Metias, since we didn't get it in the series.
My Verdict
If you are a regular in this blog you probably already bored by this, but please read my rating system if you are new to my blog, so you won't be lost in the progress about how i rate it, and more explanation for that. For this one, i can say, Skip It. Though i like reading this one as a companion side story, but you definitely won't miss a thing in the series plot if you skip this one.
