Sci-Fi 101 : Books for Beginners
January 23, 2021“Every form of art is another way of seeing the world. Another perspective, another window. And science – that’s the most spectacular window of all. You can see the entire universe from there.”
― A Thousand Pieces of You―
Hello everyone! It has been month since i did a book recommendations. Okay, here's my defense, since i always late in the game, but also continuing reading books, i'm still trying to find the perfect system either to made part two, part 3 and soon for the theme of book recs i've gave to you, like the updated version of it once i find the book that i recently read suit for the theme, or just made another theme, but of course in the end i will lost ideas for new themes, so yeah.. that's how it goes.
Anyway, i decided to give you this sci-fi book recs because i haven't talked about this theme before and i just think in the future if i find more advance sci-fi books for avid reader i can post another book recs with same theme but for advance reader. So, this one is solely for books that i think more suitable for beginner reader who want to explore sci-fi genre, which means the science element of it is not too heavy but still fun to read.
Without further ado, this is my book recs, not by rating, but i think the least heavy to a bit heavy one. Let's dive in!
1. Insider Duology by Maria V Snyder
I always love female with badass character, and Trella is one of it. Again, it's a bummer that this book is underrated. I dunno why but Synder's books are hard to get, and pricey even for a paperback edition.
The science element in this one is not really heavy since it's already soo dystopian-ish vibe, PLUS this one is only a duology which only consist of two books, Inside Out and Outside In, so it's easier for beginner who might find series intimidating.
2. Across the Universe Series by Beth Revis
She woke up with ship full of people who is in same race, different rules than the world se used to, find weird things here and there, and her encounter with the man who would be the next leader of Godspeed.
I would say this book is mind blowing! Lots of plot twist and propaganda here and there. I remember i read it in super face pace, and i keep guessing which is the right plot between the plot twist, and still surprise with the plot twist in the end. Finding the ship which is super big ship that can have their own raining system, sun system, even people basically living there, plant can grow there also, i just can't really imagine how big this ship is. Definitely fun to read, and good for beginner.
This one is a trilogy, yet it's fun to read each book since it has their own goal and theme and i feel bad since the book is not really hype in bookstagram, i barely see people post it, but this one is a gem indeed.
3. Firebird Series by Claudia Gray
Apparently her parents are a scientist who succeed invent the science by inventing Firebird, a device that allows you to travel across the universe. They got murdered by their assistant Paul. So in order to chase Paul, she jumps to a lot of different universes, with lots of versions of her life, which i always find amusing, feels like she's living in a lot of different lives.
I think the varieties of the universe she jumped into is just one of the merit of this book. Some in futuristic world, some with victorian vibe, we got worlds in the ocean also, which really fun to read because we got a taste of every possibilities of the world can be in one person point of view.
The science element indeed included in here since her parents are scientist, but also not to heavy since it also included with quite romance so i think it's best for beginner.
4. Chaos Walking Series By Patrick Ness
Anyway! Just in case you dunno about this one already, this book follow Todd, a boy in the village of men. Yes, only men, not a single woman in this village. The thing is, the wold is full of noise, which made people can hear (or see) what are you thinking about, so there is no secret between the villager.
Todd's encounter with Viola, a girl who survive a spaceship (or pod, since it's small) crash, which made her the first woman Todd ever encounter, and she doesn't have noise!
Sensing a dangerous, and lies that hidden between the villagers he run away with his loyal dog. This book is full of twist and turn, such an emotional roller coaster ride. And of course since it's also a dystopian the author just didn't hesitate to give our main character hardship to deal with.
The book need a bit of your will to adapting with the language since Todd is illiterate so how he spells or explain things are wrong but it definitely same if you just try to pronounce it. With this new language in the book you probably struggled a bit, but yes this book is the one! i just can't recommend you more.
Okay, i think i will wrap up this book recs with this four series. Let me know if which one is your fave or you have read (i do believe my recommendations somehow always underrated lol!) and which one intrigue you.
I will do another sci-fi recs in the future for the more advance one, but until then.. ciao!
