"Fair means everyone gets what they need. And the only way to get what you need is to make it happen yourself"
— Julius Kane —
I guess we can call this month as Rick Riordan Month since i will give you review of his books this month. So yeah! Welcome! Today i'm giving you a review for the least favorite series that mostly people rate it lower than the other series he has released. If you know me, i always feel a bit rebellious whenever people rate a book low, made me want to read it more just to find which side i will be, the one with the mainstream one (which made me feel secure that i'm just a normal person then), or maybe i have different opinion of it (which made me feel good because i become the "one of the kind" type) and yes, i'm weird we are in same page in this one. Either way of the result doesn't really important of course, but still intriguing to read a book with mixed review or even low review.
Synopsis
The book follows Carter and Sadie Kane, a siblings who living apart since the death of their mother. Sadie is living with their grand parents while Carter is following his father traveling around the world as a professor of Egyptologist who mostly traveling from time to time, visiting lots of museum to see lots of artifacts, and Carter a fourteen years old kid following him mostly acting like his assistant. They only met Sadie in Christmas and this Christmas just being different since they are spending it by visiting museum and suddenly they discover the true reason why their mom is dead and met Egyptian gods which one of them is super evil who want to control the world. And of course, the adventure begins.
My Review
The story itself in my opinion doesn't really fast pace. Of course i need to adapt a lot in the book for Egyptian gods and trying to imagine how they looks like in my head by the description that Riordan wrote. The language itself is easy to read just like any other of his books. His witty comment and joke is just as always my fave thing of his book.
To be honest i struggled to finish this one. Okay, can't be say struggled cuz i did have fun while reading it, but i finish it in 11 days, which for me is a bit longer than i expected. I find hard time to bring the mood to read, to get my hands to reach for this book, not because i hate the story, but i guess it less interesting in some point that i can't really say what is.
As for the characters of the book, Sadie always sparks with her stubbornness and always rebelious, while Carter is so smart with identifying each god like Egyptian god walking encyclopedia and also always going by the rules the opposite of Sadie, but still in the end he yield a lot for her. But i think for a fourteen and twelve year old kid i think they act more like eighteen or sixteen in my opinion.
My Rating
I'll go with so-so for this one. I really like the concept of how the story is told, but i don't get myself hype to finish the book in other hand so yeah, i guess it's all. Not bad, yet not that really intriguing.
