Hello Peeps! Welcome back to another chapter of "Is it Wort Reading?" series where i will give a short review for short books such as novella or companion book of certain series, and judge whether it worth your time to read or not. To be honest i need to reread the book before reviewing it in my blog since i read it last month and as you might know i gone awol in this blog since i'm a lazy person, so in conclusion you might take it as it just didn't give me a big impression. Anyway without further ado, let's dive in!
Reading Order
From our beloved book bible Goodreads, this book counted as part of Magnus Chase and gods of Asgard series. Although it didn't really describe by the number whether it's in timeline before or after certain book, i would highly recommend to read it at least by the publishing date which is :
1. The Sword of Summer (book 1)
2. Hotel Valhalla, Guide to the Norse World
3. Hammer of Thor (book 2)
4. Ship of the Dead (book 3)
The main reason why i pick this reading order because it's more convenient to you for a better understanding the world building without getting super confuse because you got a bit of introduction from reading the first book, also didn't spoiled, or got spoiled if you read it later than other books (like i always did)
What is it All About?
The book is more like a guide for new soul that came to Hotel Valhalla. You got some introductions to the Norse gods and goddesses, the whole concept of nine realms, mythical beings, all explained not only in normal way but with some fun part like interview and recipe by marvin.
Is It Worth Reading?
It's a short read, as we got from every novella we usually find. Some part are fun since we got the illustration of the god and goddesses, how they look like, some part are boring, some part are a bit annoying (or should i call it uncomfortable to read) specially when you got the experience how it feel like to meet the Ratatosk, i kind of understand how bad Sam feel in the first book because of it. But the highlight of the book for me is the recipe by Marvin the goat of Thor (which is sound a bit of irony).
My Verdict
I would say it's neutral whether you want to skip it or read it. Skip it if you don't like trivia about gods, since it didn't really matter to the story in the whole series, but you can read it just for fun. So yeah, neutral.
