“It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution.”
― Professor Dumbledore ―

Hello Peeps! Welcome back to chapter twenty of "Is it Worth Reading?" series! WOW!! I've reached chapter 20 for this series already! Anyway this is the series where i will give a short review for short reads like novellas and companion books from a series and judge whether you should read it or skip it, because i've read it, you don't have to! Today i'm bringing you one of the most famous book that mentioned in Harry Potter series!  (as i promised in previous post) So, without further ado, let's dive in!

Reading Order

Based on our reading bible Goodreads, The Tales of Beddle the Bard is also part of the Hogwarts Library series which means the series of books that actually available in Hogwarts Library. So in reading order, you will have to read the Harry Potter Series. Specially for this book, you might relate about the book so much with the series when you read Harry Potter and the Deadly Hollows. Me myself intrigued to read this book because of that.

For personal additional tips, you might want to read Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them after reading this one (or at least a few part of it) since some reference of this book went to Fantastic Beast and Where to find them few times.

What is it All About?

To be short, this is a book consist of five stories that count as a bed time stories for which and wizard, with note for each stories by Professor Dumbledore and footnotes by JK Rowling commenting or adding more info to us as a muggle that didn't really know their reference sometimes. The Stories are :

1. The Wizard and the Hopping Pot
2. The Fountain of Fair Fortune
3. The Warlock's Hairy Heart
4. Babbity Rabbity and Her Clacking Stump
5. The Tale of Three Brothers (which mentioned in the HP and the Deadly Hallow)

Is It Worth Reading?

I personally shocked a lot by the first and third stories. I mean, they claim it as fairy tales slash bed time stories for children in wizarding world, but they sounds a bit scary for me as an adult, not to mention for the children. But notes from Professor Dumbledore in each story explain it a lot, also reading his note also kind of show how intelligent he is. JK Rowling definitely did a great job at developing this character.

Of course the main course story goes to The tale of three brothers. I really like the way it narrated and i really like the meaning behind the story a lot.

'Wand of elder, never prosper.'
Whether because of the fact that Death makes the fictional wand out of elder in Beedle’s story, or because power-hungry or violent wizards have persistently claimed that their own wands are made of elder, it is not a wood that is much favored among wandmakers.
― Professor Dumbledore ―

My Verdict

I definitely suggest you to Read It. Not just because it mentioned in the series but also we got more of Albus Dumbledore's point of view and side story in each tales which give more of his intellectual side since in the series he's more like super mysterious person one.
