“Guilt is such a weird feeling, a combination of sad and sick that I was getting too used to feeling.”

Harper Price

One thing about reading Urban Fantasy, you just expect something big but your brain won't work as you wish because it's based on real world with magic added in it and your stubborn brain just won't work on it.

I definitely struggle a lot while reading this book. This is the second book of the Rebel Belle series. To be honest, just i always said, i judge book by its cover, because i don't like to read synopsis of the book cuz i count it as a spoiler so i choose book that match my liking and mostly talked in socials like IG. I choose Rebel Belle because of the cover, but this second book is not the cover that i like for me, i don't think it matches with the first book also.

A Quick Recap

In Rebel Belle, our heroine, Harper is the famous girl in school, in the night she will get the homecoming queen tiara, going to bathroom for "touch-up" time, met the Janitor dying, then turns out he (the janitor) turns her or transfer his Paladin kind of power to her. Become able to be like super agile and strong etc, she kind of become bodyguard to an Oracle. That Oracle turns out to be David Stark, guy from newspaper at school that hates her.
Lot's of killing going on, love triangle (which i don't really get it why anyway except to made the main characters together - the paladin and the oracle- ) then everything mixed up. So, there are four people (or should i call it terms? idk) The Oracle, the one that can see future, which is David, the Paladin, the bodyguard, which is Harper, the Mage, the one with magic that can wipes people memory or turns it a bit which is Ryan, Harper's boyfriend turns to ex-boyfriend, and then the Ephors the villain that want Oracle for the sake of his ability that can see the future, made him the commodity, but also tried to kill them all.

Synopsis

So in this second book, because all of them are new to this, being oracle, being paladin and being mage, they know nothing, just by instinct. Ryan and Harper tried to hold David's ability to see the future because that might turns him into "Oracle" not human David, and might endanger himself by using his power too much. So Ryan is kind of magicked David or whatever, but David didn't know that.

Turn out the Ephors came out, and kind of offering David kind of help, but Harper must finish her test as paladin (3 tests) in order to be the real Paladin. Alexander (the one of Ephor who the only one that they meet) tell David about Ryan and Harper limiting David's power, everything getting mixed up, then well that's kind of almost sum up the whole book.

My Review

You might realize by now how mixed up this book for me by how much i type the mixed up word in this review. Well.. it is mixed up. Everything is here and there, i kind of don't understand why and for what for some part of the book.

First, the loveline is super mixed up, here and there and i don't find it heart fluttering for some reason. Well...I like how David talked to Harper about their relationship, but all the relationships, either  it's love line or friendship is kind of not really worked up for me, too complicated that made me think "then why they still tho?" kind of feeling you know what i mean?

I like the point of the book is that they all just lost puppies without the parents thing, they just got power which they know nothing about, that kind of discovery is good. Also the writing style is easy to understand because it's basically based on the way people talk these days.

Some scene is not really make sense to me tho, i mean like Harper is sure that David is in danger, but not going to search for him, she went to the ephors instead. Okay, i guess the author want to explain the situations, i get it, but why not after searching? she definitely want to crush something at first in order to find him, yet when she got the chance she didn't look for him in the end i just don't get it.

Like i said at first, because of the genre of it is urban fantasy, i kind of have a hard time digesting it, i mean my mind is blocking that for whatever happened in the book is make sense, because i just can't imagine our world with some kind of magic in it? i definitely struggle a lot with other urban fantasy books like city of bones for example, but i love the third book, city of glass because it's based on the imaginary place not the real world, so my mind can accept it, idk.. maybe it's just me being super ocd or something.

My Rating

I gave it 3.5 stars out of 5, i don't hate it, i just struggle a lot, definitely curious about the next book will be about because like i said the ending of this book is kind of a closure already... ish? well... we'll see about the next book.
Oh well if you wondering why i keep reading the series tho it's not kind of my vibe kind of book? well.. because i have this OCD that made me can't unfinish a thing that i've started. Again, i don't hate the book just don't enjoy it, so not really a biggie.
