Book Review : Lady Renegades by Rachel Hawkins

September 30, 2020

“For the past six months, I'd gotten so good at telling myself that I could handle everything, that the worst would never happen. It seemed like I'd been wrong every time.”

I decided to not include this post to "The Perks of 3rd book" series since i didn't do the review for the first book, because i read the first book like years ago so i don't think that will help.

Anyway, about this book, this is the third book of the Rebel Belle series, probably the first urban fantasy book that i read (if i didn't count TMI City of Bones included because i also put it down for awhile). Again just in case you missed it, i already said a statement that urban fantasy probably the least fantasy genre that i like, because it's just hard to imagine our real world with magic and stuff in it, my brain just don't work that well.

I gotta say i don't really like the first book, i also struggling for the second book, in case you missed it you can read my review about the first book by clicking the picture below

 Synopsis

So from the end of the second book (please again read my review for it) David, our oracle, decided that he should leave Harper and the town. Harper who decided okay i will live my life without David then, turns out got attacked by a girl, who turns out a paladin just like her and said that she must kill Harper so she can become the "only one". Harper who in the middle of wrestling / fighting with that paladin lost her paladin power suddenly, almost die, but thanks to Bee who suddenly there so the paladin decided to go away.

Didn't believe that the paladin is the one that sent by David, and with suddenly appears again, Blythe the mage that used to try to kill Harper, they decided to go together to find David.

My Review

First of all, the first chapter is told by David's POV, which i really like him from the first book, so i gave it a plus for this book because of it. In struggle to control his Oracle Power, being outside of the city that was protected by ward in order to lower David's oracle power made him realize that getting out is not a good idea because he become hard to decide which one is vision which one is the reality. In time, David just lost his human side because his oracle side is just too strong.

David's oracle side sending paladins just to kill the girl with green eyes (which is harper) because he believes that the girl is going to kill him just what he sees in the visions, which also one of the reason why he left the city.

In other hand, Harper, Bee and Blythe going out of the city in order to find David, they're going in little quest to find a book that hidden by David's aunt, discover the true identity of Alexander, and find the cave where David is hiding.

I personally like this book the best than the other two, because again we got David's point of view, but i think it's lacking in the last few chapter. I just don't get why Harper choose what she chose, and i kind of like "what? just like that?"

Of course i like the ending and sort of predicted that too. The thing about ending is, sometimes it just doesn't enough. I just need more.

My Rating

From now on i won't say how much stars i will give for my review (because you can see it in my goodreads and my bookstagram, add me if you haven't) but i will go by this :

1. Nah for book that got me a lot of struggle while finishing it, and kind of not enjoying it while i read it.

2. So-so for book that it's okay but not enough for me, took me awhile to finish.

3. Uh Yeah! for books that really made me hype to read them till the last page of the book, but still a bit lack in some aspect somehow.

4. Woot Woot! for books that super duper fast for me to read and i enjoy reading it, full marks for every aspect.

So my rating for this one is : So-so. I just don't really love it much, but don't hate it either.
