"You will always have to fight for everything. Even when you already have it, you will have to keep fighting to maintain it"
― John Hunyadi ―
Hello readers!! It has been awhile! Today we are back with another book review! Today i'm giving you the second book of the conqueror series by Kiersten White : Now I Rise. If you haven't read my review for the first book yet, i think it will be better for you to start clicking the picture below and see what i wrote about the first book.
Synopsis
Left Mehmed and even her own brother Radu, Lada came back to her motherland Wallachia. But the throne is no longer hers unlike what Mehmed has promised to her. She had no one but her own and her soldier to take what is hers, the throne of Wallachia.
Radu in other hand instead of staying by Mehmed side like he always wanted, despite of his sacrifice to let his own sister back to their homeland without him although she asked him to accompany her there, Mehmed send him to Constantinople not for a diplomatic mission but as a spy within the wall.
Will Lada be able take back her throne? Will Radu succeed to help Mehmed become a spy in strange land that might made him lost his own life?
My Review
“He would die on the wall tonight, between his brothers and his enemies, because he could no longer distinguish between the two. They had finally come to the end. Whichever side won, neither would triumph.”
The differences that i feel when i read this book from the first one is that how i don't like Mehmed anymore. In the first book he just a sweet child. Being a child from a concubine made him treated differently than his two older brothers. Then when they are dead the throne left to him as a kid he just too weak to sit in the throne and Lada helps him. When he old enough he came back and claim the throne but he just a different man now. He got lots of wifes, yet still want Lada to be his queen (which is kind of romantic) but Lada refuse and ask him to let her go to claim her motherland and he let her go saying he gave her that land but turns out the land is already gave to other man, which Mehmed already know which mean he backstabbing (or maybe we call it lies, but in opinion is a betrayal) Lada with that, left her wondering around Wallachia trying to claim it by her own power.
Also Mehmed send Radu to Constantinople is kind of a bad move of him. I mean, Radu already sacrifice his sister to be with him. He in other hand knowing that Radu has feelings for him, send him to the place where he will blow it to the ground in order to conquer it, which mean Radu might died in the process yet still doing it because of his ambition to conquer it.
My Verdict
You probably already know it by now that i will say it's a Oh Yeah! for me (go click the link if you don't know what that mean) the only let down on the book that made me slow in reading is that the two POV in different places just made it less exciting when one POV story get super fun and i need the next part but i still have to read the other POV with different pace in the story. But yes i definitely suggest you to read this one.
