"Imagine, and it shall be.
There are no limits."
― Nikolai ―
Hello everyone! Welcome back to another book review! This time i'm bringing out another book that has been standing in my shelf for years collecting the dust. Glad that i finished this one, can say that i'm quite proud for my achievement. Without further ado, let's dive in!
Synopsis
There are only two enchanters in Russia. And their identity are kept in secret. With Ottoman Empire and the Kazakhs threatening Russia, the Tsar need the enchanter to help him to keep Russia from them. Tsar is holding The Crown's Game, an ancient cruel game where the two enchanters dueling to each other with their magical skill with their life as the cost of their lost.
Vika Andreyeva, a girl living in small isolated island able to control elemental power, in other hand Nikolai, orphaned and live with his strict teacher in the main land, he can sees through walls and build things. Nikolai encounter Vika with her power accidentally before the game, attracted to her power yet he must face her to death for the game.
My Review
Okay to the book now. At first i'm really into Vika's character. I always a big fan of elemental control tropes, this time is added with enchantment which is like we hop to magical realism more than dystopian. Nikolai is more of subtle character, if Vika is fire, than Nikolai is water. More calm and more controlled in my opinion.
The story itself are easy to read. More like a laid back read for a fantasy genre. I think if you are a big fan of epic fantasy, action packed, fast paced books, this one won't suit your taste. But for me since i've been in the hectic situation back when i read this book (which is months ago) i really need this kind of laid back story.
My Verdict
For me this book is So-so, there are not so much happening, though the game said it's till their death, but they didn't really duel each other directly, so it's more like competing who's better in enchantment than dueling for me. But again it's not that bad to read. Specially i need this kind of laid back book to read in between.
