“Her spine was steel. Her heart was armor. Her eyes were fire."

Hello everyone! Sorry for delay, i suppose to post this one last Wednesday, but you know me i didn't have time to take pictures and other list go on. By the way, happy Eid for people who celebrate it! Today i'm bringing you the book that actually related to Muslim religion too! Without further ado, let's dive in!

Synopsis

Ladislav is a princess of Wallachia, though she's not pretty, but she is strong and will do anything to her motherland. But her father had abandoned her and her delicate younger brother to Ottoman Courts, leaving Wallachia to live around Turkish people under Sultan's power. She and her brother Radu has to learn Turkish people's language, religion and their ruthless law.

Ladislav will do anything to go back to her motherland Wallachia, but Radu in other hand fall in love with Ottoman's culture and religion and their accidental encounter with one of Sultan's son made their live fall into Ottoman's political intrigue, but Lada (Ladislav's name) still have that dream to go back to her motherland.

My Review

Be hold everyone, for this book is not the usual book you will encounter. It's much darker than i expected. I mean how can any kid less than 13 years old has to be "Sold" for the country by their own father that made them practically as captives that has to learn their religion, their law and even has to follow what Ottoman's empire want, including witnessing the way they punish their people which including people being beheaded and stuff, that kind of hard stuff to be seen as a kids.

I can't really fathom how a kid has to suffer such treatment. Lada and Radu are the example how one thing can affected differently to each people by how they reacted. Radu direct his live to be closer to God by learning to pray in Islamic way just like Ottoman's, Lada take it as her fuel to urge her to go back to Wallachia make her stronger physically and better at planning to take revenge to Ottoman Empire. Same experience but different output indeed.

My Verdict

I have to push you so hard, to really read it! Go read it! it's a Woot! Woot! for me (go click the link if you don't know what that mean) i really like dark fantasy, and Lada is not just a normal girl you will encounter as a main female character, she really is an amazing character! I wonder why this series quite underrated. It was a great book for me, plus it is based on historical event but of course with a tweak added in the story but still, historical fiction is always fun to read.
