What I Remember From Previous Book
I read the Wicked like a wildfire back in November 2017 so i absolutely don't really remember what it was all about. The one that i really know is that they are witches, a twin, and a mom, then mom got in danger, then they discover something. Which is the thing is, i remember one of the character was so close with this man, which her mom didn't agree with, since she forbid them to fall in love, and turns out in the end, like a plot twist that that man is the one who also made her mom fall in love with him?
I might be wrong, but all i remember is the writing style is so flourish, if that made sense, so pretty like a painting, but since it's too pretty i can't really understand what is going on, the story is a bit slow, but yes the end of it is shocking. A super cliff hanging one. No, i'm not gonna give you a synopsis of this first book to you, (since i already forgot, and i won't reread the book since i already have lots of tbr in my shelf, thank you) so if you curious about what is all about, go to the goodreads page here.
Synopsis
Thought that they finally can reverse the ancient curse that has been running in their family line, turns out that Lina and Isis didn't succeed in that but did break a bit of the power that has been the original issues at first place why Mara their great great great grand mother made a deal with the Death who called himself Fjolar.
Iris was taken along with Death to the realm that suppose to be not suitable with Isis who not just taken her soul but also her body in that realm, which made her weak even to walk in the realm. Lina in other hand trying all her will to find Iris take her back from Death.
My Review
I think this would be the actually ranting post, more than the one that i've done before. First thing first, like the first book, the plot is slow. The writing style is exquisite, i don't think i've ever read a book with this beautiful writing style like this. Every descriptions, like an art, a poetry. But in other hand made it hard to digest for me.
If in the first book i keep reading and dunno what's happening in the book until the last chapter that made it a bit of sense, in this second book, the reading is a torture. It was super slow, i tried to remember every character's name, since in this book one character sometimes called by other name, one even has 3 different names, that made me confuse. Not to mentions we got a lot of new character added here, not even helping.
Finding the added POV in this book is not Death's POV but the Herron, the entity of the first place why Mara made deal with Fjolar (the death) to lock Herron in his realm. Knowing this truth probably one of the best part of the plot twist in the book. Herron is such a tragic character, he loves Mara, but she locked him. Plotting a revenge, building the army at the end but still dead in the end, not by Lana, not by Isis, not by Mara but by Dunja, their aunt who loves Fjolar. How she defeats Herron? she got goddess in her, HOW? i honestly don't know! The reading felt so blur, the war also felt so blur to me.
One thing that made me furious in this book is their male character. Luka, the man who was snogging Iris in the first book, "got along" with another girl that can be called as Iris' great aunt just because he's lonely.
"I think about her every. Single. Day. Where she is, who she’s with. So if Oriell wants to keep me company while I wait to see if I’ll ever get her back . . . Then I’ll take a little comfort, and you can keep your judgment”
- Luka ―
I mean, what kind of man who said, i love her, but i'm lonely so i need someone to warm my bed?? what kind of man is that? Also the other one would be Fjolar. I always love him with Iris even from the first book, he also kind of smart while explaining the realm he made to suit Iris' taste.
I am alone, and lonely, it mused. As I have always been. My nature is of solitude, and yet, why does it have to be? Perhaps one such as you could with stand being by my side. You could come away with me and see such things, Witch Mara. Become my sunlit bride.
- Fjolar ―
Okay i get it he's a Death itself. He's lonely, but over and over again lying to Iris so he got time more with her in the realm? For someone so called as Death he's such a sappy character.
“You’re the last, Iris. The final companion I’ll ever have, the last love I’ll ever know. There’s nothing after you, no more fire or beauty or light. Just infinite quiet and dark. The endless cull.”
- Fjolar ―
And he of course death in the end of the book. Yes, i know, i'm being hard for this book, but this book is being hard to me! Not to mention the ending is super bad, Iris is not going back with Luka, but she gone to adventure after so hard in the whole book to get back to where her sister is. And Dunja, their aunt just go to the realm, become the goddess and waiting maybe that she will met Fjolar agian.
My Verdict
I rant too much already, it's definitely a Nah for me (go here if you dunno what its means). I was expecting more for the plot, but it's too slow, the struggle is real, the ending is super bad, the male characters are just... Ugh. Okay i won't say anything more, ciao!
