So I Read Hype Book : The Cruel Prince by Holy Black
August 08, 2020“I’m so tired, so tired.” [...]
“Tired of what, sweetmeat?” it asks me.
I sigh and answer honestly for once. “Of being powerless.”

Welcome back to the second chapter of "So I read hype books" series!! Just in case you miss out the first chapter of this series you can checkout by clicking the picture below.
So How Hype is This Book?
So based on our bible of the books, Goodreads, this book has received a lot of good reviews. 95% of people liked it as it said the day i write this post. But that probably won't be convincing to you? So, this book, like i said not only super hype in the instagram, but some subscription box like Fairyloot and Illumicrate also released their "special edition" solely for this series (I won't post the special edition in my blog just in case i might cross the credit so you can just google that). I personally like Illumicrate covers a lot more than others, yet i only got the original edition, which i don't really mind.
So in conclusion, yeah it's a super hype book with a lot of special editions, the UK and the US cover also different (which is quite normal because yeah they do sometimes) but they have white and black version too! I also saw some of bookstagrammers collecting all of the editions of this series.
Synopsis
So a little bit of introductions about this book, this book follows Jude, a mortal (a human) that suddenly got visited by a strange guy when she was 7 years old, that guy killed her parents that day, who turns out her mother's ex-husband (or, i think we can't call it ex because he is a faerie i don't think they have divorce department in their world). That man, Madoc, took her and her twins, also her sister who apparently the daughter of Madoc and her mom and took them to the Faerie world.
So in simple word, it's talking about human girl that living in Faerie world which is hard to believe and hard to be accepted around faeries because she's human.
My Honest Review
The same concept that i'm talking about is that the Faeries don't tell lies, human shouldn't eat faeries food, you shouldn't dance with them unless you want to dance non stop until you die or until they tell you to stop. It makes me so sure that Holy Black share the same concept with Cassandra Clare is because this book is dedicated to her.
I've asked about this when i'm reading it in my insta story, and one of my friend said she thinks it's the common ground rule that Faeries don't tell lies since she read some books about faerie and they can't tell lies, but i can't really confirm about the food and the non stop dance for you. So..IF you know about it, please tell me.
In few first chapter i just hate how this book talking about bullying and Jude as the most bullied character here, she's the main character like a Cinderella being bullied her step sisters and brothers (in this part we call them faeries although not all of them her family, the one that bullied i mean).
Price Cardan, the one that i assume as "the cruel prince" here literally cruel to her. Not just him but also his friends bullied her because she's mortal. Personally he tortured her because she's trying to join a faerie tournament which she probably win even against Cardan himself.
"We’re not mortal. We will break you. You’re a fragile little thing; we’d hardly need to try. Give up.”
“Never,”
“Never? Never is like forever—too big for mortals to comprehend.”
―Cardan to Jade―
I also like his dad Madoc (well.. not real dad, more like step dad-ish? because he's her mom ex husband) about how he still treat her and her twin Taryn like his own child (well... for faeries world i think he is a good dad except that he killed their parents right in front of their eyes) He is a good Villain (by good, again it means a bad bad person, which is good. Well... i hope I didn't confuse you).
One other reason why i gave this book 4 star reads is because i love the plot twist and the cliff hanging of course.
My Verdic
So that's for today! Tell me whether you've read this one or not, and what you think about the hype of this book.
