Best Books for Non Reader Friend

July 29, 2020

A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies.
The man who never reads lives only once.
George R. R. Martin

So today is the day we spread the reading virus to our non reader friends! So many of my friends are not a reader (by that mean i mean like 99% of them) so here's the list of books that i would like to recommend to my non reader friends as a starter, to introduce them to the reading worlds!

This time i would not include series book because it might overwhelming for a starter, so this is a standalone worth reading fro my non reader friend books recommendations

1. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

I remember i read this one in one sitting, the book is not that thick, which is not intimidating for non reader friends. This story follows a young prince who lives a small planet. The story begin with the little prince visiting a various planets. By it's look people will probably think that it's a children book, but believe me it's for adult too!

This book is a disc
ussion on the nature of grown-ups and their inability to perceive especially important things. We are, in some terms sometimes forgot a lot of things by the time we age, sometimes we forgot some important things and obsessed with other things without realizing what we've been missing out.

2. Wonder by RJ Palacio

I totally suggest Wonder for someone who want to start reading specially if English is not their first language since it's a middle grade fiction so the language is easier to understand.
This story follows Auggie, a kid with a Treacher Collins sydrome which has his left face disfigured.
Auggie is a 5th grader whom spent his whole life before that by home schooling. He tried to be as normal as he can despite of his appearance.

I won’t describe what I look like. Whatever you’re thinking, it’s probably worse.

Through this book we learn to not to judge people by they look. How someone with not ordinary appearance is just the same like us, they also have their own insecurities but tried harder than normal people do to overcome it. Also not just by his own perspective but other people around him. This book is not exactly a series, but it has sequel "Auggie & Me" which also another perspective from people around Auggie, also the "365 Days of Wonder: Mr. Browne's Book of Precepts" which more like quotes book in my opinion, but leave a lot of impression each page of it.

3. Monster Call by Patrick Ness

This is probably the best book to be introduced to your friend that never start fantasy genre books. The story about the struggle of a thirteen year old boy named Connor with his terminal ill cancer mom. He was having a nightmare each night, and met the Monster out of the Yew tree which the tree that his mom loves.
Every night at same time he will met the monster, he must tell his story, his true story unless he want to be eaten by the monster. In return the monster also will tell him a story.
The stories that the monster tells really inspiring and left a lot of meanings to think about for me. So i totally recommend my non reader friend to read this book.

So that's a wrap! I gave the thin book to read, an easy language to understand and a great book to non reader specially the one that would be perfect as an introductions for fantasy books.
