“I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.”
― George Weasley ―

Gosh finally i can use the famous quote that i use for my website in one of the book review!! Anyway...Hello peeps! i'm back after such a long hiatus (okay it's not that long but yeah..and also it's not a promise that i will be back on track again too,so...) today i'm bringing you the book to movie adaptation review where i will compare the book and the movie. Without further ado, let's go!

Synopsis

In the third year of Harry in Hogwarts, the world (both wizard and muggle) was shocked by the news that one of the prisoner got loose from Azkaban (the prison for the wizard) which is the only first person ever break out from it which is Sirius Black. Sirius Black was arrested because he was killing 13 innocent people in single curse and one of the follower of Dark Lord, Voldemort.

Knowing that Sirius is in a run and assuming that he will try to kill Harry, Harry not only restricted to go anywhere after noon and without accompany, Hogwarts also got visited by the guard of Azkaban, the Dementors who sucks the happiness out of its victim and somehow really like to attack Harry in comparison with other people.

Book and Movie Comparison

So as you might know it already, i watched the movie first than the book. I just finished the book yesterday, and let me tell you, it was... wow. First thing first, let's see some same things that happened both in book and the movie :

1. Crookshanks first appearance in this book

2. Dementor attack Harry both in the train and at Quidditch tournament.

3. Buckbeak attacking Draco because of his own stupidity.

well the list goes on, let's go to the different part.

1. Cedric Diggory and Cho Chang was introduced in this book not in the goblet of fire

2. The firebolt was sent earlier in the book than in the movie by the end of the movie.

3. The book explain a lot of Hermoine's tiredness because she took too much class, while in the movie it was just Ron keep surprised she suddenly there where she wasn't seconds ago. And Hermione once again in big fight with Ron in the book but not in the movie.

4. The time turner, in movie Hermione throws two rocks to Hagrid's hut to make them see that Dumbledore and others are coming, while in the book they saw it by them shelves and it's Hermione who finds Scabbers not Hagrid. Hermione was also attacked by Dementor in the book before the time turner, and after the time turner she and Buckbeak wait in Hagrid's hut instead of going along with Harry to the Lake.

5. We know what happened to Snape after Harry (and Ron and Hermione) use Expelliarmus  spell on him that he knock out after that and later got so angry after the event ends, while in the movie he just left there in Whomping willow tree

6. There is more explanation of all the question that arise in the book than the movie. Why Sirius got to Azkaban (killed 13 innocent people and followers of Voldemort which he didn't comit), why Snape hate him a lot (almost killed Snape while he actually save him from Remus who is turning into warewolf), how Scabbers is Wormtail (he became animangus, along with Harry's dad and Sirius, which is not explained in the movie)

But all explanation in number 6 doesn't really make sense in the plot in the book because it's too long in such a tense scene, so the movie is more reasonable for that scene, but yeah it needs more explanations for the movie because they only said that Sirius has escape Azkaban and the government being edgy by that.

My Verdict

I think, it's save to say that i love the book a little bit more than the movie, of course i like the cinematography of the movie but i really think the book is more complete and left no questions, but i actually really like the Harry and Hermione's scene in Whomping Willow specially when Hermione grab Harry's shirt and go along with her. But it missed Crookshanks's part a lot, the beginning when Hermione pick it as her pet, when he helps Sirius a lot, and chasing Scabbers because he knows that Scabbers is not just a rat. In conclusion the movie was fantastic, but the book is no denial answers all the questions of the events that happened there.
